Northern Ireland grocery guide
How to compare unit prices without getting caught by pack sizes
Supermarket prices can be confusing because the cheapest-looking pack is not always the best value. Unit pricing gives you a fairer comparison.
Food: kg and litres
Meat, fish, vegetables, fruit, rice, pasta, milk and yoghurt are usually easiest to compare per kg or per litre. This lets a small pack and a family pack sit beside each other fairly.
Household: wash, bag or item
Laundry capsules should be compared per wash, not just by pack price. Bin liners should be compared per bag, with the litre size visible where possible. Toiletries and tablets may make more sense per item or per 100ml depending on the product.
Why NI Food Compass shows the retailer link
The site can help spot value, but the retailer is still the final source for stock, delivery, local price and promotion details. Every row should point you back to the shop for checking before you buy.
Start comparing
Use the live NI Food Compass table to search by product, shop, diet need, meat type, fish type, brand, deal and unit price.
