Editorial policy
Editorial and Data Quality Policy
NI Food Compass is built as a consumer-help project, so the site needs clear rules for accuracy, independence and corrections.
Editorial aim
Our aim is to help Northern Ireland households understand grocery and household pricing in practical language. Content should explain real shopping decisions, not hide behind technical dashboards or repeat retailer marketing copy.
Independence
NI Food Compass is independent. Retailer, brand and product names are used for identification, comparison and consumer information. Paid support, advertising or affiliate links should not change factual price comparison ranking unless clearly stated.
Data quality
Price rows are checked for obvious problems such as missing links, zero unit prices, category mismatches, household unit errors and known product canaries. The system is still improving, so public correction links are part of the workflow.
Human review
Automated collection and normalisation are supported by manual review. When a product category, diet tag, brand, unit price or retailer link looks wrong, the correction should be logged and reviewed rather than ignored.
Limits
Prices, stock, pack sizes and promotions can change at any time. Retailer pages remain the final source of truth for purchase decisions. NI Food Compass is a planning and comparison aid, not a guaranteed checkout system.
